The history and the gardens…
The house is built on a site that has been a settlement through the ages and the name “Danesfield” originated from the Danish adventurers who made an encampment here. Brimming with history, Danesfield House was once home to the Intelligence Section of the RAF. In 1901 the house was re-built as a family home for Sunlight Soap magnate, Robert William Hudson, and in 1991, it first opened its doors as a hotel.
Pretty fountains and waterfalls make Danesfield Gardens so quintessentially English while the Italian Garden adds a touch of the Mediterranean. Formal gardens consist of towering Yew topiary and box hedging filled with varieties of English and French Lavender. Walk past two original waterfalls to viewpoints overlooking the River Thames.
