Nettlebed

Nettlebed was of some importance in ancient times because of its position on the point where the Henley –Oxford road intersects the Chiltern Ridgeway. Later it became a noted staging post. Legend has it that many Kings and Queens stayed at the former Red Lion in the High Street.

The church has 3 John Piper windows - he was an artist who lived locally and did windows in a number of local churches.

Nettlebed is a great place to base yourself, being very close to Henley and easily reachable by bus. There are hundreds of walks from there including the Ridgeway and walks on Nettlebed estates - still owned by the Fleming family (descendants of Ian Fleming - James Bond fame) and Warburg Nature Reserve.
