Rushey Lock

The lock house was in the past a guest house, providing a peaceful retreat for famous names such as Douglas Fairbanks and Errol Flynn. Today the attractive house and its garden - especially the giant topiary frog - attracts photographers from far and wide.

Rushey Lock was built in 1896, and before that it was one of the many flash weirs on the Thames. The lock is in its original condition with manually operated beams opening and closing the pound lock gates.

Did you know?

Rushey probably got its name from the rushes common here, which have been used over the years for making mats, chair seats and baskets.
