About
Henley Royal Regatta is undoubtedly the best-known regatta in the world. It is a highlight of both the summer sporting calendar and the social season.
The Regatta attracts thousands of visitors over a five-day period. Spectators are thrilled by over 300 races of an international standard, over six days, which can include Olympic rowers as well as crews new to the event.
In addition to watching the racing, visitors can take in the ambience of the enclosures, enjoying the array of restaurants, bars and shops available, as well as the charming views of Henley and the River Thames.
Henley Regatta was first held in 1839 and has been held annually ever since, with the exception of the years affected by the two World Wars and the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally staged by the Mayor and people of Henley as a public attraction with a fair and other amusements, the emphasis rapidly changed so that competitive amateur rowing became its main purpose. The Regatta took place on a single afternoon but proved so popular with oarsmen that the racing lasted for two days from 1840. Take a look at its history.
Hobbs of Henley will be running river taxis throughout the event, please enquire via telephone on 01491 572035.
