Closures and restrictions

There are occasionally events or works on the River Thames which can cause closures or restrictions, details of these are listed in the tables below, click on the event notice for further details.

Notices

Seacourt/Wolvercote Mill Stream breach
Due to lack of rain we are working hard to maintain Water levels in the River Thames between Kings and Osney Locks. If you are planning to pass through these locks in the near future and your boat is narrow beam (6ft 10inches or less) please use the Oxford Canal from Dukes Cut to Isis Lock or vice versa to help save water.

River Thames lock improvement programme

The 2009/10 lock improvement programme has now been completed.

  • Northmoor - New public and relief lock keeper facilities.
  • Iffley - New out of hours public power.
  • Abingdon - Improved short-stay morrings.
  • Abingdon - Diver surveys and core sampling of lock walls.
  • Culham - Widened tail layby walkway.
  • Clifton - New lock ram trench anchors.
  • Days - New lock ram trench anchors.
  • Whitchurch - New out of hours public power and hydraulic upgrade.
  • Mapledurham - New facilities for boaters include a pump-out, chemical toilet disposal facility and a drinking water tap.
  • Blakes - Refurbished head lock gate hollow quoins.
  • Shiplake - New lock gates and repairs to lock chamber.
  • Hurley - Improved base moorings.
  • Hurley - Diver surveys and core sampling of lock walls.
  • Marlow - Re-sheeting of lock gates.
  • Marlow - New out of hours public power.
  • Bray - Out of hours public power update.
  • Chertsey - Diver surveys and core sampling of lock walls.
